In the second century
Roman physician named Galen started animal testing.
Galen is the first to
describe the complexities of the cardio-pulmonary system and speculated on
brain and spinal cord function. He also wrote over 500 treatises on animal
physiology. In On Anatomical Procedures he detailed actual experimental
methods and identified the best instruments to perform specific procedures.
